Kennedy Knocks off First Tri-State Billiards Event

Dennis Kennedy KO’d Emily Duddy in the finals of the February 19 stop of the Tri-State Tour to claim his first title on the tour. The $1,000-added tournament drew a strong field of A-D players to BQE Billiards in Brooklyn, NY, to vie for the $645 first-place prize.

Dennis Kennedy KO’d Emily Duddy in the finals of the February 19 stop of the Tri-State Tour to claim his first title on the tour.

Kennedy squeaked past Alex Osipov in the winners’ side final four 6-5 to reach the hot seat match. His opponent, Duddy, had just easily handled Ed Hugh 7-3. Their first match-up went double-hill, with Duddy eking out the 7-6 victory to claim the king seat.

On the one-loss side, it was quickly over for Hugh, who was eliminated in fifth place 7-5 by Ed Culhane. Tying with Hugh was Kim Meyer-Gabia, who was trounced by Osipov 6-1. The quarterfinals yielded another double-hill affair, with Osipov winning over Culhane by a narrow 7-6 margin.

Over from the hot seat match, Kennedy was eager a new opponent and had little trouble dealing with Osipov 6-2. In their rematch, though, Duddy put up more of a fight. The final match went hill-hill, but this time it was Kennedy who claimed the win 9-8.
