On the A-side, Mike LaPorte (Galesburg, IL) [rated a “6” on a regional handicap system used] and Josh Johnson [7] (Bettendorf, IA) each claimed a seat in the finals by vanquishing their respective opponents in the semifinals – Dan Hankins [4] (Moline, IL) 6-2 and Joe Villalpando [5] (Bettendorf, IA) 7-1. Josh Johnson then took the hot seat with a 7-2 win over LaPorte.
Action on the B-side included Gary Norman [4] (Davenport, IA) and Joe Villalpando [5] eliminating respectively at 5th place Dan Hankins [4] 4-2 and Joe Gieken (Dubuque, IA) 5-1. Norman then took out Villalpando at 4th place by a 4-4 margin. Norman then lost out in the B-side finals to Mike LaPorte 6-1.
